On Monday, February 12, U.S. Ambassador to Montenegro Margaret Uyehara delivered a donation consisting of food and hygienic items to the Red Cross for recipients of social welfare from the Secretariat for Work, Youth, and Social Welfare of the Municipality of Podgorica. The Ambassador presented the donation to the Red Cross at the People’s Kitchen in Konik, which provides services to 600 citizens daily. The Red Cross will distribute the donation to the most vulnerable families.
Ambassador Uyehara said this was a small contribution from U.S. Embassy staff and friends of the Embassy to those in need. The Secretary of the Secretariat for Work, Youth, and Social Welfare of Podgorica Ivan Terzic expressed hope that other institutions will follow the U.S. Embassy’s example.
General Secretary of the Red Cross Jelena Dubak thanked the Embassy for the initiative, highlighting that every meal is important to socially vulnerable individuals and every donation helps.
