On December 9, Anti-corruption Day, Ambassador Uyehara, together with the Minister of Justice Zoran Pazin, Head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro Mitja Drobnic, German Ambassador to Montenegro Gudrun Elisabeth Steinacker, UK Ambassador to Montenegro Ian Whitting and MANS Executive Director Vanja Calovic gave, gave opening remarks at the IX National Anti-Corruption Conference organized by NGO MANS.

The Conference gathered representatives of all relevant actors in the fight against corruption. Participants included state institutions and other organizations, including judges, prosecutors, police officials, representatives of political parties, representatives of different ministries and government institutions.

At the conference opening, Ambassador Uyehara said: “Criminals always find ways to exploit vulnerabilities of any system.  Corruption is one of the key “tools” for making the criminal justice system weaker and less functional.  Anti-corruption efforts should therefore remain a priority of your country in the following years.  It is necessary for further and deeper integration of Montenegro into Euro-Atlantic structures, as well as for the general good of its citizens and their future.”
