American Corners in Podgorica and Cetinje Celebrate Important Milestones with their Local Communities

Together with their local communities, host institutions, and U.S. government representatives, including Regional Public Engagement Specialist Sarah Ziebell, the U.S. Embassy’s American Corners in Podgorica and Cetinje celebrated important milestones – their twentieth and tenth anniversaries, respectively, in November 2023.

Ambassador Judy Rising Reinke, the first female Mayor of Podgorica and a former American Corner visitor Olivera Injac, host institution Director Aida Batilovic, and senior American Corner Coordinator Anica Vujnovic, spoke at the anniversary celebration about the significance of this space for the local community. The event gathered a significant number of patrons, alumni, and U.S. and Montenegrin friends and facilitators, as well as the winners of the “From America to the World” trivia game aimed to highlight and promote the work and influence the American Corner Podgorica has had over the past two decades in Montenegro. Opened in 2003, the American Corner in Podgorica is the first of three spaces in Montenegro established to strengthen U.S.-Montenegro cultural ties.

The American Corner in Cetinje also marked its first decade with support from its host institution and numerous patrons from the local community, many of whom sent heartwarming video messages about the impact the Corner has had on them and their local community throughout the years.
