Embassy Supports War Crimes Training

As part of U.S. support for building capacity within Montenegro’s criminal justice system, the Embassy’s Rule of Law Program supported the Center for Training in the Judiciary and State Prosecution in convening a practice-based training on war crimes in Bar July 16-17, 2022.  The workshop brought together regional and international experts to share lessons learned and best practices with judges and prosecutors from Montenegro.  Former U.S. Ambassador-at-large for War Crimes, Stephen Rapp, presented on international courts and U.S. principles of investigation in war crimes cases, including forced disappearances, while representatives from the War Crimes Departments in the Prosecution and Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina shared their experiences in investigating and prosecuting war crimes in domestic courts.  The training was funded by the Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).
