U.S. Ambassador Judy Rising Reinke, in the company of historians Nebojsa Čagorović and Slavko Burzanović, the director of the Museums and Galleries of Podgorica, Vučić Ćetković, and the director of the NGO Paradigma, Brit Boone, visited an exhibition featuring photos taken by members of the historic American Red Cross mission to Montenegro after the end of World War I in downtown Podgorica on March 26, 2021. The exhibition is part of the U.S. Embassy’s multi-year communications campaign that began in July 2020, designed to highlight the breadth and depth of the bilateral relationship, which is built on the foundation of shared values.
This portion of the campaign, which seeks to highlight not only the Red Cross mission that brought volunteers to Montenegro after the end of World War I, but also U.S. support to Montenegro during COVID-19, evidences the longstanding friendship between the United States and Montenegro. Two street exhibitions, located in Podgorica and Niksic, which are complemented by additional content which will be shared on the Embassy’s social media platforms, showcase photographs of Montenegro from both the time of the Red Cross mission (1919-1922) and today, many of which capture the extraordinary natural beauty of the country.
All are invited to visit the street exhibitions – the Podgorica exhibition is located on Njegos street, between the Municipality building, the City Parliament, and the City Library and will run from Friday, March 26 – Sunday, April 4. The Niksic exhibition will be located on Trg Slobode from Friday, April 9 – Sunday, April 18.
Ambassador Reinke stated, “The exhibition you see here today is a testament to the longstanding friendship and partnership between the United States and Montenegro. In the aftermath of WWI, the American Red Cross mission to Montenegro helped to rebuild the country and, in the aftermath of COVID-19, the United States is proud to support the Montenegrin Red Cross and other partners in helping the people of Montenegro recover from this terrible pandemic. Friends, partners, and allies, like the United States, continue to support the people of Montenegro, now, and in the future.”
