The United States’ stance on government formation has not changed. We support prompt formation of a government that upholds Euro-Atlantic values, represents a multi-cultural Montenegro, stands as a reliable NATO Ally, firmly supports Ukraine, and continues to actively work toward EU integration.
We are very concerned over reports the new governing coalition may contain parties and leaders who actively oppose Euro-Atlantic values. The reality is that the participation in the government of groups or leaders who refuse to call out Russian aggression, refuse to advocate for Ukraine, refuse to support EU sanctions on Russia, refuse to protect minority rights, and refuse to ensure the sovereignty of neighboring countries such as Kosovo will drastically impede Montenegro’s efforts in achieving its European aspirations.
