On June 17, Ambassador Uyehara met with the President of the Administrative Court of Montenegro, Ms. Branka Lakocevic. This was the first official meeting, during which President Lakocevic informed the Ambassador on the work of the court and ongoing legislative changes. Ambassador Uyeaha and President Lakocevic talked about the past cooperation between the U.S. Embassy in Podgorica and the Administrative Court, particularly referring to the recent “Conference on the Use of Administrative Law in Investigating and Adjudicating Official Misconduct and Corruption Matters,” as well as matters related to cases involving restitution of expropriated property and freedom of access to information. Ambassador Uyehara emphasized the importance of the Administrative Court in enforcing rule of law in Montenegro, and reaffirmed the commitment of the U.S. Government in supporting Montenegro in its process of reforming the judiciary.
