The Peace Corps sends Americans with a passion for service abroad on behalf of the United States to work with communities and create lasting change. It is an international service network of volunteers, community members, host country partners and staff who are driven by the agency’s mission of world peace and friendship.
At the invitation of the Government of Montenegro, in 2019 Peace Corps established a program in Montenegro focused on English education, and the first group of Volunteers arrived in country in 2020. Following the evacuation due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Peace Corps Volunteers have returned to Montenegro to continue their peace and friendship mission.
Peace Corps volunteers serve as education volunteers in primary schools and co-teach with Montenegrin English teachers. The volunteers work also with their teacher counterparts to engage young people in after-school clubs, educational camps and sports initiatives. Volunteers may also engage in secondary projects including economic development initiatives, environmental projects, and more. Through service, members of the Peace Corps network develop transferable skills and refine intercultural competencies that position them to be the next generation of global leaders.
