Charge Aliu Speaks at the Opening of the Regional Conference on Present and Future Challenges in Fighting Cross Border Organized Crime

On October 6-7, 2016, the United States Embassy in Podgorica and the EU funded project International Cooperation in Criminal Justice Prosecutors’ Network of the Western Balkans supported organization of the Regional Conference on Challenges in Fighting Cross Border Organized Crime, organized by the Supreme State Prosecution office of Montenegro. Charge Aliu, Supreme State Prosecutor of Montenegro Ivica Stankovic, Head of EU Delegation to Montenegro H.E. Aivo Orav, Minister of Justice of Montenegro Zoran Pazin spoke at the opening of the conference in Budva on October 6.

The aim of this regional conference was to bring together Supreme State Prosecutors and Heads of Special Prosecution Offices from Albania, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia to encourage strengthening of their cooperation in fight against organized criminal groups operating in the region and EU as well as to discuss present and future challenges in the fight against cross-border organized crime.

During his opening remarks, Charge Aliu commended the Prosecutor’s Office of Montenegro for the visible and concrete reforms they have recently undertaken, noting that Prosecutor’s Office of Montenegro for the visible and concrete reforms they have recently undertaken, and should serve as a model for the judiciary and police. Charge Aliu stressed U.S. readiness to support Montenegro in implementation of the rule of law reforms required for full Euro-Atlantic integration.
