The United States congratulates the Government of Montenegro on the arrests of Cristian Vintila, Massimo Romagnoli, and Virgil Flaviu Georgescu, who have been charged with conspiring to sell large quantities of military-grade weaponry to the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (the “FARC”)—a designated foreign terrorist organization—to be used to kill Americans in Colombia. The arrests were made by Montenegrin police on December 15 and 16 and are the result of close cooperative efforts involving the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency’s Special Operations Division, U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, the National Security Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, and the Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs, among others.
