The United States Embassy Podgorica, in cooperation with the Administrative Court and the Judicial Training Center (JTC), hosts a “Conference on the Use of Administrative Law in Investigating and Adjudicating Official Misconduct and Corruption Matters” in Bečići, Budva on April 6-7. U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Mr. B. Bix Aliu, President of the Administrative Court Branka Lakočević, and Executive Director of the JTC Maja Milosevic spoke at the opening of the conference on April 6.
“The consequences of corruption are immense – injustice, misallocation of resources, and economic decay. Corruption erodes the confidence of citizens in the rule of law and leads to instability. Police and prosecutors should not be seen as being solely responsible for combatting this phenomenon. Other types of investigations handled by administrative bodies can be even more effective than criminal investigations.” said Chargé Aliu at the opening of the conference.
The aim of the conference is to promote the use of administrative procedures to combat corruption and official misconduct and to support the development of the new Anti-Corruption Agency. Beyond this training, a written commentary on the new Law on Administrative Procedure, published with the financial support of the U.S. Embassy and written by Supreme Court Judge Sreten Ivanovic, was promoted at the event.
