U.S. Ambassador to Montenegro Margaret Ann Uyehara, together with the English Language Teachers’ Association of Montenegro (ELTAM), officially closed a two-year Access Microscholarship Program in Nikšić, Montenegro, on September 15.
The Access Microscholarship Program is a two-year, intensive, afterschool English-language learning program for talented students sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. Twenty-five 13-15 years old students from Nikšić who met the program criteria participated in the program. Since December 2015, the students completed 360 hours of interactive English language learning activities, including two summer camps, with an aim of improving their communication skills and developing their leadership potential. The students also gained an appreciation for U.S. culture and democratic values and strengthened their ability to compete for and participate in future U.S. exchange and study programs.
The U.S. Embassy launched the Access Microscholarship Program in Niksic in December 2015 to support youth empowerment and leadership in Montenegro. The program is the State Department’s first Access program in Montenegro. Currently, another Access Program in Podgorica is in its second year of implementation. In October, the Embassy in cooperation with ELTAM is also planning to launch a new Access program in Rozaje.
